My “birthday” party

Okay – so the party wasn’t for me – it was for this lady.

Bossy & I on my 29th (cough!) birthday

But it was my birthday.  And it was a party.  And it was fabulous!

There was laughter, hummus, good beer, and even better company:

Mommy’s Martini, MomZombie, Unmitigated (the artist formerly known as Middle Aged Woman), Deb, Suzan (aka: swirly fabulous), Elizabeth, and GrandeMocha.  Silly me, only took out my camera at the end of the night to take a few blurry photos.   Scrapbook FAIL.  But check out Bossy’s post on the night, as well as some of the other great bloggers above for actual pics.

And then, on the way home, I got my first (actual) birthday present….. A lovely ticket from the State Police.  Ha!

Actually, it was kind of a gift.  I only got written up for not having my new registration on me.  (New tabs were on the license plate – but the actual copy of the registration form was on my kitchen table.  Fail)

I can only hope that next year (when, surprisingly enough I will be turning 29! again!) is just as good.

I’ve got a feeling….

That tonight’s gonna be a good night.

The catchy tune by the Black Eyed Peas has been running through my head for a little while now.

Why?  Because tonight BOSSY is coming to Detroit!   She s did a road trip across the U.S. back in 2008 and a group of us local bloggers got together for a night of fun, wine, and a late-night White Castle trip.  Not to mention, the world’s yummiest salmon dish. (recipe is halfway down the post)

Now she’s doing it again, this time for her (No) Book Tour.  Because, well, she forgot to write a book.   But she did manage to organize a trip criss-crossing the country covering 12,000 miles in 6 weeks.  Yikes!  Check out Bossy’s website to see the latest stories of leggings, support hose, the best fast-food breakfast sandwiches, and living out of a car for one and a half months.  Also, her romance with John Cusak. (see below)

And a group of us are getting together at a local(ish) brew pup – Liberty Street Brewing Co. in Plymouth, MI.  I’m hoping to reunite with a few of the great women I met last time – and meet a few more.  Maybe even a guy will show up this time.

A few other reasons why today is going to be good:  It’s also my birthday. (woo-hoo!)  So before making the trek to Plymouth, my good friend Brad & I are going to catch an afternoon showing of Iron Man 2.  It’s also a sunny day – perfect for walking my foster dogs.  I also went to the chiropractor this morning and feel very relaxed and stretched out after my post-adjustment rolling treatment.  Also: the office staff at Dr Buller’s sang “Happy Birthday” to me when I walked in.  How sweet!

I hope you’ve got a feeling that today is going to be great for you as well.  And I hope that there is some sunshine in your life, wherever you are.

My bf

So I thought I’d introduce you to my boyfriend finally. I feel like I’ve been sharing everything else with you lately, dear innernets.

Let’s see: He’s a cute brunette and Really funny. Almost as funny as me. We just laugh and laugh and laugh. He’s usually busy on Saturday nights, but if I stay up late enough I get to see him sometimes. He lives out of state, which is kind of a bummer, but we make it work the best we can. We first met in NY one weekend a loooong time ago – and although we clicked, neither of us was in a rush to get serious. And then there was Boston, and the Red Sox, and magical Fenway Park. And that’s when I knew it was love.

His name is Jimmy, but I like to call him James sometimes, just for kicks. I don’t have a great picture of the both of us, but I do have one of him:

james

see, I told you he was cute!

Although James is a great (imaginary) bf – I have had to make some sacrifices to be with him.  The hardest of all was breaking up with my previous ibf – John Cusak.  Although my friend Bossy made it a little easier on my by claiming him as her own.  And I really can’t argue, or even get mad at her – she’s clearly way more dedicated than I am.  I guess I just wasn’t as committed to the relationship.   Looking back, I don’t know if I could ever be with someone who referred to his job as “his craft“.  But Bossy is in true love.  She made a great video montage of their relationship.  Until I can fix my computer to link to the video directly, go to Bossy’s site to check it out.

Workin’ for the weekend

What a great weekend! I mean, apart from the ant attack and all. (which seem to have subsided these last two days, thankyouverymuch – thanks to some bleach, borax and peppermint oil)

It all started with my hawesome Friday night with her and her and her and her and her, and especially her.

Saturday brought sunshine and a Detroit Tiger’s game with my good friend Kelly. Which was great because:

1.) Kelly is amazing, fun, and always makes me laugh.

2.) The Tigers won! Even though it was pretty close for a while.

3.) People watching.

Baseball is the great equalizer. You really see all walks of life there. Rich and poor; classy, and, um – not-so-classy; old and young. You never know who you’re going to see there, or who may be sitting by you. This last Saturday we had the “privilege” of sitting right in front of some big, drunk man-party. I’m not sure if it was a bachelor party or a fraternity get together. All I know is there was a whole lot of beer and a WHOLE lotta cologne. Seriously – I think the dudes fogged themselves in AXE between innings.

Or the random young hip-hop metrosexual in his D&G glasses who had the most interesting way of explaining his scar to a girl nearby. Oh, no! It wasn’t just from an accident… It was from when he wrecked his Mercedes SUV (insert ridiculously long description of his fabulous car and how superior it was – yadda yadda yadda) when he was driving back from this fabulous club (can’t remember the name, but he thought highly of it..). And then he wrapped it around a tree on I-75. And ruined some fabulous shirt. Which kinda sucks.

But don’t worry – FORTUNATELY, He is still fabulous! and has a cool scar! He may have killed the car, but not his ego. Phew!

I especially love how drunk people cheer for the team. Like screaming obsenities at the refs/managers/opposing team members from the nosebleed sections makes any difference. *sigh*

Really, though, I do love it. It’s fun to watch people get passionate and rally behind a team.

After the game I went to my first bonfire of the season and got to soak up some great campfire smell and enjoy a few beers with my friends.

And Sunday? That was the best of all. But I’ll save that for another post. :).
